The Department of Biomaterials and Biotechnological Systems uses and develops modern nanobiomaterial engineering techniques in systems for regulating biological processes supporting and regenerating tissue or organ functions or anti-cancer effects. This involves preparing and characterizing materials with high application potential for their later use in systems intended, among others, for releasing therapeutic agents, developing methods for detecting nanoelements of biomaterials, multilayer coatings on biological material and preparing cell scaffolds. At the same time, work is related to bioencapsulation in the aspect of immobilization, microencapsulation and nanoencapsulation, including the design and study of interactive cell scaffolds. The research also includes work related to the production of semipermeable capillary membranes for biomedical and biotechnological purposes and the development of electrospinning techniques for polymer nonwovens and 3D bioprinting.
